I'k considering entering ceremonious service for the first time in a GS-13 position. I was wondering if my 10 years of military service would count toward the pace level I'd start out at or not?

    Non automatically. Normally, pay must be set at the lowest level of the applicable rate range for the position (GS-13 step ane, on the applicable pay table; encounter five CFR 531.211). However, the agency may prepare pay higher if you have superior qualifications or they have a special hiring need (5 CFR 531.212).

      No, only you can purchase back your armed forces time towards civil service retirement. Basically your service computation engagement (SCD) is shifted back in fourth dimension equal for each twenty-four hour period of qualified service.

      This will modify how your annual leave is accrued 6 hrs vs iv hrs per pay period, and your seniority for RIF deportment.

        Credit for almanac leave purpose is given fifty-fifty
        if you exercise not purchase back your military time unless
        you are retired military in which case merely whatsoever
        campaign zones equally approved by OPM or gainsay zones
        will count towards annual leave.

Federal salaries are not an exact science, and contrary to what people will tell you, you can do things to influence information technology. The easiest way to argue for an advance in step is to already be making more than a 13-1 makes at the place where you will be assigned. I did that for my start government chore, and I gave them a pay stub and they were able to write a justification for an accelerate in step.

          If you don't get the bacon/circumstances that you want, you tin e'er walk away. It's good to apply and interview for several jobs so yous accept several offers in the queue, and no single one will make or break you.             Information technology really depends on the job. I know our section is hiring a lot of people primarly in GS-xiii and they oasis't given one person that nosotros know higher up stride one. Our union is really involved in this and they also believe no i has gotten above. All the new hires that I have talked to that accept tried information technology were told they would not brand exceptions.

              Some Federal agencies accept a standing policy of hiring military veterans merely at the lowest possible starting salary (Pace i) of the grade being hired into. That is, even if the veteran'due south qualifications, experience, and earnings history qualify him or her for a higher starting salary. The reasoning behind is that veterans who are hired on an initial Federal appointment upon leaving agile duty are considered to exist "unemployed." Every bit such, these veterans are considered not to exist earning any income from their present military machine jobs.
