Get a new router is the real answer.

That router simply pretends information technology has QoS. Annihilation related precedence is well-nigh stupid to accept on a consumer router. All these tags are stripped off past the Internet service provider. In addition your end devices would have to actually put the markings on the packet.

If that was bully enough similar nearly cheaper routers at the very best information technology can only limit upload traffic. Near people have issues with download traffic.

Pretty much this is a characteristic they can print on the spec sheet but it does close to aught.

There are some routers like tplink and asus that allow you lot to place limits on upload and download speeds. It tends to not work all that good unless you do something like reserve about all the bandwidth for your game. This will make things like netflix and youtube buffer if they try to run high res streams.

There is are a couple special forms of QoS that are used to set up bufferbloat that tend to favor games and not hurt other traffic besides much. I do non think there are whatsoever implementation in factory firmware y'all must load tertiary political party firmware. I suspect this is not going to be a choice for you because third political party firmware is not really supported on routers that take a DSL modem in them.

Most things like video streaming practise non utilize that much bandwidth. If you are having issues gaming I suspect yous accept a very small internet connexion. Mostly you can reduce something like data downloads but streaming video has a minimum rate much like your game. If it tin can't get this minimum rate information technology volition non function correctly. And so in effect someone is not going to be able to use the internet. The only real solution is to take a internet programme that is at least fast enough to support the minimum rates for all the awarding that need to run at the same time.

Starlink just came out of Beta and should be live for the whole U.South. soon. The problem is, they can only make 5,000 customer kits per week, and there are like 500,000 people signed up for them. Then that'south like a 2 year backlog on kits.

The best QOS algorithms are called FQ_Codel or CAKE. these will throttle users in an equitable manner to make the nearly utilize of the bandwidth you lot have.

The IQ router uses these algorithms and is the only real off the shelf solution for not-tech savvy people.

For people that know there way around a webUI of a router, I'd recommend getting an Asus router that you can load Merlin into. Then yous can select Cake nether the QOS tab and even set information technology to automatic if you similar. https://world wide web.asuswrt-merlin.net/ Brand sure y'all check the list to see which is the compatible with Merlin. Merlin loads merely like factory firmware, you don't take to do annihilation special.

For your Frontier router, you'll need to put that into "BRIDGE MODE" so it acts like just a modem. If you tin't do bridge manner, then QOS won't work on the new router.
